Cake and goods galore at Ashford Farmers’ Market 3rd birthday bash

Posted on Thursday 6th July, 2017 by

Visitors soaked up the sunshine and enjoyed browsing all the homemade delights from our much-loved traders at our special Farmers’ Market 3rd birthday bash!

Deputy Mayor of Ashford, Cllr Jessamy Blanford, kicked-off the birthday celebrations by cutting our specially made birthday cake. Visitors enjoyed tucking into their slice as we handed out free pieces of cake throughout the morning. The delicious three-tier cake, created by local trader Ble Couture, featured a stunning handmade sugarcraft basket of fruit and vegetables.

The Little Teapot were getting into the party spirit too, and were handing out free cups of tea for visitors to enjoy with their slice of cake. We are delighted that the tearoom, located in Park Mall, will soon be celebrating their 1st birthday! To mark the occasion they are running a birthday competition where you could win a High Tea for two. Visit their Facebook page or pop into the café to find out more.

Visitors enjoyed hot street food, lunchtime snacks and refreshing drinks from our local traders as they sat outside on the bistro tables and chairs, soaking up the sunshine. Ques Smokehouse were also there on the day promoting their new restaurant (located in Bank Street) by handing out free samples from their menu.

As people meandered the cobbled streets, Miss Holiday Swing performed jazzy tunes while DJ Gideon played 50s and 60s hits, adding to the buzzing atmosphere.

Thank you to everyone who got in the birthday spirit and entered our fabulous competition and well done to the winner!

Dozens of people popped over to the LoveAshford gazebo where they were excited to hear about other free council events including the newly launched Create Platform (which kicks-off later this month) as well as the annual Create Music Festival.

Ashford Farmers’ Market Manager, Rachel Heather, said: “Thank you to everyone who came down to the town centre to celebrate our 3rd birthday market. We couldn’t have asked for a better day; the sun was shining, the atmosphere was buzzing and there were so many delicious treats on offer from our popular local traders. We would like to thank The Little Teapot who gave up their time to help us hand out cups of tea on the day.”

The Ashford Farmers’ Market is part of the council’s drive to increase footfall in the town centre, particularly on Sundays, and to support local businesses. The market takes place on the first Sunday of the month between 10am and 2pm on the lower High Street.
